Mud. Fire. A little chaos.

Black Mud Studios is a small ceramics studio in Victoria, BC, on the edge of the Pacific. Every piece starts as a lump of clay and ends in the heat of the kiln, and what happens in between is part plan, part surprise.

We're drawn to natural forms and unexpected surfaces: glazes that shift from bronze to deep blue-green depending on the light, textures that feel like weathered stone, shapes that sit a little off-perfect in the best way.

The rugged coastline, the dark rock, and the moody skies of Vancouver Island find their way into everything we make. No two pieces are ever quite the same, because no two firings ever are.
